RETURN to OZ.CHICAGO Shirley Ryan Ability Lab
Donation protected
RETURN to see The Wizard. The Wonderful Wizard of OZ.
I have RETURNED to “OZ”, a/k/a Chicago to visit the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.
What is my purpose? Neurorehabilitation, i.e. “Neuro Rehab”. 18 epic days. 31 sessions of therapy encompassing physical, occupational and voice therapy.
What is the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab? The S.R.Ability Lab, whose motto is “Advancing Human Ability”, is the first-ever “translational” research hospital where clinicians, scientists, innovators and technologists work together as a team, in the same space, applying research in real time to physical medicine and rehabilitation.
How did I get here? In October 2019, I traveled here to Chicago to visit the S.R.Ability Lab
· for a reevaluation of my stroke/aneurysm
· to undergo a neurological consultation
· to discuss therapeutic recommendations with the team, and
· to begin actual therapy—occupational, physical and speech.
After this first visit, the S.R.Ability Lab provided 23 pages of recommendations to my therapists, doctors and neurologist. My treatment team and I began following these recommendations, resulting in improvement in all the areas.
The FINAL recommendation by the S.R.Ability Lab after my first visit: Return to Chicago and S.R.Ability Lab for FOUR weeks! We are squeezing 31 therapy sessions into 18 days. This is INTENSE therapy, or as one of my therapists described it, BOOT CAMP. Today is Day 4.
It’s kickn’ my tail, but IT. IS. AWESOME.
Part of the cost of these final 31 therapy sessions is covered by my insurance. I am so thankful for that. But my insurance won’t cover all of the expenses of the trip, including travel, lodging, and new but necessary medical equipment. I need to raise $9000 to cover those non-insured medical expenses so that I can finish my time in “BOOT CAMP”. The proceeds from this GoFundMe campaign will be used to pay for these non-insured expenses.
I can only do this through your HELP. Would you please consider a donation of:
$25
$50
$100
$250
$500
or $_____
No donation is too small. Every dollar helps.
I have made incredible strides, thousands of steps, one step at a time, over the last nine years.
I couldn’t have done it without your assistance, encouragement and prayers. I am so blessed for my community of friends.
We can't do this life thing without each other.
WHY WOULD WE WANT TOO?
Thank you.
Luv ya,
Ricky
