Jacob McLaughlin

On Saturday September 28, Jacob was badly hurt as a result of senseless violence near his home. While doing laundry at a local laundromat, he stepped outside and a man attacked him, beating him severely with a brick. Luckily, there were witnesses who called 911, and the police were nearby to quickly apprehended the attacker. Jacob was urgently rushed to the hospital where they immediately started to treat him. They performed emergency surgery to stop brain hemorrhaging. Miraculously, they stopped the bleeding. He had to be in a medically induced coma for a while to ensure his brain the best chance to heal. Those that know Jacob know that he is a kind, gentle, generous, selfless and sweet soul. He would do anything for anyone, expecting nothing in return. He is beyond brilliant and has been working towards his dreams his entire life. He has his physics and math degrees, and is working on his PhD in physics at Northwestern as well. He is part of a dark matter project, the LZ Dark Matter Experiment. Jacob is loved by nearly everyone that has ever met him. He has a beautiful fiance, his true love, and they plan on getting married in January. He woke up the morning of September 30; he initially couldn't recognize anyone, but now he now can recognize some of us. He is still confused and afraid, but doing better. The neurosurgeon came and did some tests, and is very optimistic and believes he will make a full recovery. He will need many surgeries however. His jaw, orbital, and possibly other facial bones are all broken. His teeth were all knocked loose. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him, and is going to need rehab to recover. Due to all of this he will certainly not be able to work for the time being, and there are many costs to cover: the hospital, surgeries, dental work, rehab, and we would really, really like to get him out of his apartment and relocated to a SAFE area, as well as potentially needing to break his lease for his current apartment. Anything you can contribute to help would be greatly appreciated. No one deserves this, and we are appreciative of whatever help can be offered to help assist him in not paying for some man’s evil, heinous crime. I will be posting updates, as we have them!
