Our sweet Titus Joshua Pierce was born September 20th at 4:51pm at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He came in at 5lb 15oz and measures 16.5 inches long.  It was discovered by ultrasound on September 11th that Titus had a mass on his neck which was compromising his ability to swallow and breathe, requiring a team of specialists to review and determine a plan for delivery. After an MRI report and the risk of Tya going into labor Titus was delivered by c-section (emergency fetal EXIT procedure) and was stabilized and transferred to the University of Alberta hospital for specialized care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Following delivery my wife Tya was transferred to ICU at the Royal Alex Hospital for continued observation as she lost a large amount of blood during her c-section delivery, requiring blood transfusions. I accompanied Titus to U of A hospital to care for him there.    Titus went in to surgery to secure the tracheostomy that was placed during his delicate delivery. This procedure went amazing and they were able to secure it into a position that has allowed his medical team to be 100% confident in the airway that has been established for him.    Titus also had a CT scan today which showed that his tumour is originating from the brain stem and has grown through the skull and into the neck. Nothing surgical was done with the tumour today and it has to be turned over to the paediatric neurology team for closer review and consideration. Doctors are fascinated by this little boy as they have never seen anything like it. Titus is already quite the celebrity :) His specialists are going to be researching and discussing his case with specialists around the world to ensure the best care and approach is taken with our sweet baby boy. It is unknown at this time what the next steps are for Titus but Tya and I are so grateful for the time they have with him and the joy he has brought already. We are reaching out in support to our friends and family during this time of uncertainty. I am unsure as to when I will be available or able to return back to work. My family needs me and I need to be there for them.
