Shane And Toni's Gofundme
Donation protected
Our oldest brother, Shane, was diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) that ruptured (causing a brain bleed) on the right side of his brain on August 31st. He was at home with his wife, Toni, when the AVM ruptured and the paramedics were there within a few minutes to take him to a hospital. A ruptured AVM is a very serious health concern and occurs in roughly 1% of the population. The main concern with Shane's AVM is the damage from the bleeding that occurred in his brain. For the past 3 weeks, Shane has been receiving intense treatment and has been on a strict limitation with visitors because the doctors were concerned about keeping his blood pressure down to prevent another potential bleed. Shane underwent 2 major brain operations this past week and we are happy to announce that both procedures went incredibly well! We all feel fortunate that Shane continues to be at the hospital in caring hands of nurses, doctors, and loving family & friends. While we are excited about the great news with his brain operations, Shane's recovery is just now beginning. The ruptured AVM has resulted in Shane not having full use of his left hand, arm, & leg but that does not mean it will not return to full function! The upcoming weeks will include many hours of multiple variations of therapy, and will be a very challenging task for him and his family, as he will remain as the hospital until further notice. Anyone who knows Shane, knows he will take on with great effort and a grateful attitude! We have had many people ask how they can help and with the shock and worry we all have been experiencing over the past few weeks we weren't sure how to respond. Shane and Toni are amazing people, parents of 2 wonderful boys (2 year old & 13 year old), workers, and friends. We would like to help them as much as possible during this very difficult time, as they don't know how long he will be in the hospital, let alone if and when he will be able to return to work. If you would like to help out any donation will be appreciated and extremely helpful for them. These donations will assist with outstanding medical bills, ongoing therapy, & bills. We appreciate all of your continued support! -The Gardner Family
UPDATE: After Shane's successful surgery, the doctor's did another scan on the brain and found another unruptured AVM. it was located where his blood clot was so they were not able to see it before surgery. The surgeon's would like to do a radiation treatment in roughly 3 months to shrink over a period from 2-5 years. This AVM is less of a concern because it has not ruptured, however, it will add many more trips to the hospital.
