Nicks Fight For Life
Donation protected
This is my Dad, Nick Brooks, who is currently in a fight for his life.
In October 2017 Nick received the news that doctors were concerned there might be a problem with his liver and by December 2017 it was confirmed. He has liver cancer. By January 2018 Nick received treatment and had chemo beads injected directly into his tumors. These worked for a while but the cancer became active again.
In March 2019 he began a new drug specifically for liver cancer newly listed on PBS. We thought this was working until a couple of months ago. Nick went downhill rapidly and was admitted to hospital, we thought he wouldn’t be coming home.
Nick has battled through and made it back home.
This week we received the news you never want to hear. It seems Nicks cancer has now spread and the only treatment available to him is Immunotherapy at a cost of $60,000.
Yes that’s right $60,000...... $7,000 per treatment which is administered by IV each fortnight.
My parents have always had private health insurance but that’s not even an option here. Immunotherapy is available on the PBS for melanoma, lung and renal cancer only.
My dads never been a smoker, drinker or drug taker. He’s a loving family man who would do anything for anyone. He remortgaged his home and cashed in his super years ago to fight for custody of my niece who has learning disabilities. He even retired to help look after one of my daughters, pictured with him above in Jan this year. If only he still looked this way.
He has 3 other grandchildren & isn’t ready to leave any of us behind.
He may not be my dad by blood but when I was 30 we did an adult adoption & made it official. This man is the world to my family and I & I will do anything to help him fight this battle.
My dads a proud man and is not one to ask for help, we don’t want to lose him but time isn’t on our side.
If you are able to help in the slightest way we would be eternally grateful, even just sharing this page and getting it out there would be a great help.
All funds raised will be forwarded to my dad for his treatment.
I will be keeping everyone updated with his progress.
I thank you for taking the time to read my dads story if we could even reach 60,000 people who donated $1 each. It sounds simple in theory and all my dad and family can do is cross our fingers and pray for a miracle & your help.
