Ethan Carruthers

On July 20th, 2019, my husband Ethan was on his way to work in downtown Minneapolis when his car was hit  by a driver at highway-level speeds. His car was totaled and Ethan was critically injured. He's been in the ICU at Hennepin Healthcare ever since. I started to write out the laundry list of Ethan’s injuries and got depressed all over again. The quick summary is that the left side of Ethan’s body got crushed (broken arm, broken ribs, laceration of spleen, broken leg) and the right side of his brain was injured as it slammed into the inside of the skull from the crash's impact.

Ethan’s had six surgeries (at the time of this writing) since the accident, and has received incredible care from the staff at Hennepin Healthcare. 

We are blessed that he's stable and alive, and the only thing we know for certain is that we have a long journey of healing and rehab ahead of us. There’s a very good chance Ethan will not be able to work for years, if ever, and because he was classified as a part-time employee he did not get benefits through his employer. I have a wonderful, flexible employer and will be able to telecommute, but the loss of Ethan’s income is going to cause us difficulties as we navigate Ethan’s recovery and try to raise our six-year-old daughter Kira.

The outpouring of support we’ve received from all our loved ones near and far has been amazing and humbling, and we hope that you will help us here, too. Any funds received as part of this appeal will go towards Ethan’s healthcare expenses and to keep life as normal as possible for Kira.
