Help Dave Lovvorn Beat Cancer!

In late June Dave had surgery to remove cancerous tissue in his tongue. Unfortunately, because of his previous heart surgery which included a mechanical Mitral valve being implanted, he is on blood thinners. Because of the blood thinners the tongue had trouble healing and would not stop bleeding. He spent 17 days in the hospital and another week at home before he could return to work. During this process we reached our rather high insurance deductible and have had to set up a payment plan with the hospital to be able to handle this debt. The surgery unfortunately left cancer in his tongue and the cancer also found its way into the lymph nodes in his neck.He was scheduled to have 8 weeks of radiation and Chemo treatments. At the urging of his brother we decided to go up to the Mayo Clinic for a second opinion. The Mayo Clinic was like a breath of fresh air. Their ENT specialist laid out a completely new course of treatment, one that might save Dave from having any Chemo and less or no radiation. It did include another more aggressive and intricate surgery. After a dozen more appointments with 5 different departments, Dave and the family decided to postpone the planned chemo and radiation to let the Mayo Clinic specialists perform surgery on his tongue and neck. He is scheduled for surgery Friday August 9. The surgeon is expecting another long hospital stay “post op” to make sure the bleeding is stopped. Unfortunately, Mayo Clinic is not part of our HMO system so this expense will be completely out of pocket for the family. Anything you can give will be used to pay medical expenses and support the family during Dave,s recovery. Thank You for your support.
