Andy’s Top Surgery

Hi ya’ll! My name is Andy Dettman and I am a transmasculine non-binary person. I began the process of socially transitioning in 2017 and began medically transitioning using testosterone in January of this year. It has not been an easy journey to get where I am today. I have overcome many obstacles to be here, and have many more to go before I am where I need to be. My next step will be top surgery, and I currently have two surgeons who I have consult appointments scheduled. One in November of this year, and the other in July of next year. Having top surgery is 100% necessary for me to live comfortably in my body as I suffer from severe anxiety and depression associated with body dysphoria disorder. I also have back and rib problems due to binding, and will not be able to bind much longer without being in severe pain because of it. It is hard for me to ask for help, as I am a pretty private and quiet person. I know that I am already privileged because I have health insurance that has helped me receive the care I need to have access to testosterone, and gender affirming surgeries. I am very lucky. However, even with health insurance, my consults and top surgery will be very expensive and I will have a large deductible that I am responsible for, and costs associated with being away from work while I am healing and continuing to provide for my kids and partner.
