For those of you who may not have the pleasure of personally knowing the Elders, I’ll give you just a glimpse of who they are.
Brett & Allie Elder, both teachers at Shiloh Hills Christian School, along with their children, Walter and Pollie, are some of the most God-fearing, amazing individuals you will ever meet. They each have a heart of gold, always looking for ways to serve others and give God all of the Glory to let His light shine thru them! What a blessing this family is to mine, and so many others who feel the same way. I pray that we can come together to bless them as much as they have blessed others.
On Thursday, July 25, 2019, Brett was diagnosed with pneumonia. He started feeling better the following 2 days, but that Sunday, in the early morning hours, Brett woke up with a horrible headache. Later that day Allie took him to the ER, where he was subsequently admitted. During the night, he was transferred to Kennestone, where he was placed into a medically induced coma and formally diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease. Legionnaires' disease is a type of pneumonia caused by legionella bacteria.
Brett is still on a ventilator as of August 4, 2019. He is improving everyday, but could still use your fervent prayers for healing in God’s time. I will be sure to update this page regularly with updates on Brett’s status, as well as, needs for Allie and the kids while Brett is on his road to recovery.
I know a large number of friends and family have asked how they can help the Elder family. While there is still a lot of unknown needs at the moment, there are some known for the immediate. Some require money, while others require skilled labor. If you have a connection who may be able to help at a discounted rate, or may be able to donate materials or time, that would also be a huge blessing. Once Allie’s mom goes back home, we will start a meal train to help Allie juggle visiting Brett and tending to the kids.
In the meantime, here are the immediate needs:
1) Air duct cleaning for the Elders home. I have a quote, but would be interested to see if there may be someone else with a competitive rate, or maybe even bless them with this service free of charge.
2) Stair & deck replacement for the outside of the Elders home. (This is where labor hands could be of most value. I am currently looking into a possible connection for donated lumber.) This is 2nd highest of importance because Brett will not be able to climb these stairs when he gets released. We will have to explore alternate means of ingress and egress for him, but we need the stairs and deck to be in top structural condition for the options we are currently exploring.
3) Prayers and Donations are also of utmost importance, so we can relieve the financial burden from their stressors.
4) As I stated above, meals will be needed likely starting the week of August 12th. In the meantime, I’ve been told that they are covered in the snack arena for the time being. However, gift cards for restaurants would be helpful, as well as maybe grocery stores. I’ve also been told that a dear friend set Allie up with a Shipt account so she could have groceries delivered. I can personally say that, that will be a bigger blessing than she probably even realizes. Allie currently has a parking pass for the hospital, which will expire on Wednesday, but it will need to be extended.
5) They will also need some lawn and shrub maintenance help. Walt was a huge help for James on Thursday, but it is definitely more than he can take on by himself. If we could get a couple guys on a rotation, that would be so helpful.
I will be sure to update as things progress.
Many, many thanks for your thoughts, prayers and blessings for Brett, Allie, Walter & Pollie!
