As many of you remember and so graciously donated for before Alice Kite was diagnosed with Leukemia. After months of treatments, we finally heard the words we anticipated for such a long time, “the leukemia is gone and she is in remission”. We all collectively took our first sighs of relief in months. Alice finally got to go home, and begin her life as a normal one year old. Learning to walk, new words and when to say “please”. Even growing back some of the hair she lost during her treatments. Beginning her summer playing outside and at the park came to a screeching halt when Nancy, Alice’s mom noticed Alice losing her balance and falling a lot and tugging at her ear saying “ow”. Nancy knew something wasn’t right. She took Alice in as soon as she could. The ER Doctor feared meningitis so Alice was transferred to Devos children’s hospital once again. Upon her arrival at DeVos, tests were run and two MRIs showed two tumors in Alice’s brain. Further testing took what was once a sigh of relief and turned it into a punch to the gut and knocked the wind out of our entire family. Alice’s cancer not only returned but it is back not only in her brain but her bone marrow and her spinal fluid. If and when the doctors can get her into remission again, she will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant that will hopefully fight off cancer cells and keep it away. Alice has another long fight ahead of her, as do Nancy and Chris. It is uncertain now when Chris, the sole provider of the family will return to work and unfortunately bills don’t stop and they do have Morgan and Felicity to continue to care for as well. If you have the means and the inclination to donate to help this family once again, our family would be forever grateful. A share can be just as helpful as a donation and as greatly appreciated. We continue to hold out hope that the tough little girl who fought so hard, and won before will shine through again.
