Hello, my name is Eden. I am Finley’s mom. I have created this campaign to ask for some help financially for my sons medical bills as well as travel expenses. My son Finn was diagnosed with a heart defect and Trisomy 21 at 20 weeks gestation. A visit to the pediatric cardiologist confirmed that Finley in fact did have a heart defect and suspected it to be major. The next few months we would go to the cardiologist for follow up echo cardiogram to check the progression of Finns heart. Initially the left ventricle was very small and a hypoplastic left heart syndrome was suspected along with a vsd (hole in the heart). Initially we were told that Finley had no chance at surgery and would likely pass away shortly after birth if he made it full term. This was a very difficult pill to swallow. We planned this baby. We wanted him with every part of our beings. We couldn’t wrap our heads around how and why us? Why our son? This was a very dark time in our lives. As time passed Finley’s heart seemed to be progressing. The left side still seemed too small, but nothing was getting worse. This was the positive news we needed to push through to birth. The only way to know what the true conditions of his heart are and to decide what to do about it, is to do a echocardiogram on him right after birth. I had a planned c-section and the NICU team at Crouse were in the OR waiting to take him to be evaluated and monitored closely as soon as he was born. After birth the cardiologists found that he had a coarctation of the aorta and a vsd, but the left ventricle was “big enough”. This was the best news we could have hoped for! We aren’t out of the clear yet though, Finley needs to go to Rochester for heart surgery to fix the coarctation and possibly the vsd. We are looking at transport to Rochester early next week and surgery to follow in the next few days after. Tommy and I will be going with him and staying in Rochester. We are asking for donations to help with the financial burden of medical bills and travel expenses we will encounter. We don’t know how long he will be in Rochester for. It depends on how long until surgery and how long it takes Finn to fully recover and be healthy enough to come home. This can be anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months.
