Life is full of surprises. I would have never guessed I would be where I am today. My head is spinning. My heart is so broken for my wife. My heart is broken for my daughter. My heart is broken for my son. This morning Garrett, my 9 year old son, woke up and said it was really hard news to get yesterday. He also told me we have to make the most of the time we have because if it is a full 2 yrs, he will be 11. He also wants to know “why now?” I couldn’t really answer that other than letting him know I am thankful it wasn’t 4-5 yrs ago. I was so proud of him but his words broke my heart into a million pieces. It has taken me to tears several times today. It has me evaluating every second of what I have. That has brought me to “what now?” I am not a rich man in the way of money. I have to work but with treatments it is challenging right now. I have to take the time I have to focus on my family, treatment and health. While I do this I want to spend time writing. I want to work on the book I have never slowed down to write. I want to breath life in deeply. I want to show my kids things and create moments every day! I want to do this while I focus on taking great care of myself and “loving my liver!”
The thing is, these things all take time and money. After treatment costs, there are fuel costs, expenses and other things. We have been hesitant to do anything like this but have been asked by multiple people to open a GoFundMe page so they can help. They can help with travel and alternate treatment not covered by insurance. They can also help cover fuel for a trip. They can help cover the cost of food. This goes against my pride, but Christa and I agreed at the front end of this we would be open and allow people into this process with us.
We are grateful for whatever comes in.
