As much as this pains me, I am starting this GoFundMe for my mother-in-law Lisa Fleury - a wonderful loving mother, spouse, sister, friend, and grandmother.
She began feeling off a few short weeks ago - a little off balance, forgetful, intense migraines, and extremely tired. After seeing her doctor a few times for those symptoms her doctor noticed the left side of her face looking a little droopy and asked her when that had happened. Lisa didn’t know. She was sent to the hospital for a scan and a few days later on May 19th, her 51st birthday, she lost all memory - she did not know what day it was or what she had done only minutes before. Thankfully she had her partner, Will, at home with her and he took her right to the hospital. Little did anyone know how drastically our lives would change.
Lisa was sent for x-rays, ct scans, bloodwork, and an MRI. After a week of tests it was determined that it was cancer - they found spots in her lungs, breasts, ovaries, and her brain. She was transferred from Chilliwack hospital to Royal Columbian for surgery to drain the fluid that had formed in her brain and was causing her memory loss. The fluid was biopsied and she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer.
Anyone who knows Lisa knows she is an incredibly strong woman and is going to fight fight fight! She has a long road ahead of her and unfortunately Medical EI is not a lot to live on. Her job as a custodian with the Chilliwack School District is being held for her but as a casual employee she doesn’t have any sick time / LTD benefits. She is solely living on what little amount she has in savings and unemployment to cover her current expenses plus the additional costs that will come up for prescriptions, fuel, parking, etc... We know money is tight for so many and have really struggled with the idea of asking, but any amount that you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
Please keep Lisa in your thoughts and reach out to her to help her gain the strength she needs to beat this!!! Thank you XO
