Dear family and friends of James Carpenter- we mourn the loss of James Carpenter who passed unexpectedly of complications related to stroke. His wife Paula, a public school teacher in Berkeley and their 8 year old son will immediately have to rely only on her teachers salary, with no other savings or insurance. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
what happened:
On Sunday June 9, three days after his 54th birthday, James had face tingling and arm numbness and made a Dr. Appt for Monday at 3:30.
The Dr sent him direct to the Kaiser Richmond ER at 5:00, where he was misdiagnosed and at 6:30 was sent home and told “he was at major risk of stroke” but had carpal tunnel syndrome-
At 8pm Paula arrived home to find him unresponsive.
He returned to the Kaiser ER and received an MRI detecting a clot in the neck and brain then received stroke medication to reduce clot.
The drug is only affective within a four hour period.
At 11:00 pm he was then sent by ambulance to John Muir in Walnut Creek (Kaiser ER in Richmond did not have the ability to perform the surgery needed at the time).
The Dr at John Muir was unable to remove clot. The brain is continuing to swell- now day 4.
Family and friends are devastated.
Thank you in advance for any support physical or financial.
I have been very close friends with James for the last 34 years, as I sit here writing I am in disbelief and overwhelmed with indescribable sadness.
