Help Lisa And Joe

My daughter Lisa was in an accident over Memorial Day weekend. She and her husband can really use some financial assistance with their expenses. Please read her statements about what happened:

So I’m sure you all know by now I wrecked a Lime scooter and broke both my legs. Joe and I had gotten free tickets to the Indy 500, something neither of us had much interest in, but free so why not? It would be a fun experience. It was kinda a VIP area with catered food and swag bags! There were several signs we should’ve just given up on the scooters...the first one I got didn’t accelerate, Joe got on one who’s battery was dead...eventually we both got working scooters and headed to the race.

The instructions on the Lime app specifically said to not ride on the sidewalk, so we rode in the street and were ordered multiple times by police to get off the road and ride on the sidewalk.  (This, as it turns out, is against the law in Indianapolis, but maybe those particular officers were unaware of this fact.)  As I was steering my scooter over to a driveway to do as instructed by the Indianapolis police my front wheel hit the small curb of the driveway and all I know is the scooter stopped and I did not. I wasn’t going full speed (which Might have been a mistake, who knows)...all I remember is flying off the scooter running a couple steps, feeling like my legs bent backwards and falling onto the scooter and shouting.

Thankfully there was an ambulance close by and I was taken to the hospital where after a few hiccups it was discovered I had broken both my legs in several places. I had tibual plateau fractures and multiple breaks in both legs. We also discovered later my big toe was broken too. I was admitted to hospital Sunday night... then the surgery got bumped from Monday to Tuesday... During the surgery, I received two steel plate in my left knee and one plate in my right knee. I’m looking at months of rehab and recovery and 6 weeks of no weight bearing on my legs except to get in a wheelchair if needed or the toilet.

Thank you for all the love and support and messages, it means a lot and really has helped me keep my spirits up. The Moral of the story - STAY OFF THE SCOOTERS!!!

As a result of being in Indianapolis we have had to spend more money than if we were closer to home. Joe has missed an entire week of work. We’ve had to spend money on hotel rooms and food for Joe (I’m covered on the food front with delicious hospital food). Joe was able to sleep at the hospital the first three nights on a cot, but he really needed uninterrupted rest on a comfortable bed so I made him go to a hotel on the 4th night. After I return home I will be unable to walk for 6 weeks and will require extensive rehab and physical therapy. If any complications arise we will have to travel back to Indianapolis to consult with the surgeon. I am able to have follow up care close to home but will have to check in with the surgeon who performed the surgery.

So, as Lisa and Joe have been posting, a lot of you have offered to help in any way you can...asked what you could do. Well...honestly you can help by contributing to their gofundme. This injury will be quite a hardship on them and every little cent will help immensely and allow Lisa to heal without the stress of financial ruin. Give something if you can...or if you can’t give, please consider sharing.  We understand if you can’t contribute-but thank you either way.
