On May 23rd Matthew was brought to the medical analysis clinic in ocean springs hospital for hives and complaints of abdominal pain. After speaking with the nurse practitioner she decided to send him to have some blood work done and an ultrasound of his abdomen. Within 20 minutes of leaving, the nurse called saying Matthew needed to go to the emergency room immediately. After arriving to the ER, the doctors came in and proceeded to tell my brother and parents that Matthews spleen was the size of a football, (the average spleen is the size of half fist) and his blood platelet level was under 4,000 (normal range is 130,000-400,000) So they started talking about the possibilities of leukemia or lymphoma. That night he was given 4 bags of platelets, which only raised his platelet count to 5,000. May 24th Matthew has a bone marrow biopsy. May 26th they sent him home while waiting on the test results. May 28th Matthew had blood in his urine. So from there we back to the ER where he was admitted and they immediately gave him more platelets, which still did not help his platelet count. The doctor has still not received the full report of his bone marrow biopsy, but his doctor says we can’t wait that he needs to be transferred to a bigger hospital, with a good trauma center and doctors that can diagnose Matthews case, because unfortunately the hospitals here do not have what my brother needs. His doctor is working on getting him sent to MD Anderson by the end of this week or early next week. I’m asking for donations for my parents to be able to comfortably focus on my brother while they diagnose and treat him how ever needed. They will need money to cover traveling expenses, medical bills, and their regular bills that come in monthly. Anything that is donated is highly appreciated, and if you are not able to donate please just pray for my brother in hopes that the doctors can diagnose him, treat him, and get him back home to us. Thank you so much
