Help Emily Walk Again
Donation protected
On February 20, 2019, I had to undergo a below the knee amputation of my left leg due to a bad bone infection. Prior to this, I was able to walk using AFO leg braces and crutches. I needed leg braces and crutches to walk because 20 years ago when I was 18, I was in a bad car accident that broke my spine leaving me with partial paralysis from the waist down. I had to relearn to walk, something that doctors had told me would be impossible. I overcame that devastating injury and went on to get married, have two wonderful children, and get my Master's in School Counseling. For years I have been unable to work in the field I love do to continuous problems with my left leg and foot. Now that it has been amputated, I am eager to restart my life. There's just one thing holding me back from relearning to walk again, money. Prosthetic legs are very expensive as is a new leg brace for my remaining leg, physical therapy, and home modifications that would allow me to move about safely, take baths, build a ramp on my home, and additional safety equipment. I have set a goal of $25,000 for me to accomplish these goals and return to being the independent person and able bodied mother that I was. I know that this goal is high, but I promise to only use it for the things that I desperately need to be able to walk again. I doubt that this goal can be met, but anything that can help me achieve mobility again will be put to great use and greatly appreciated. Please donate if you can and share this with others. Thank you and God Bless. Emily
