Please Pray For Sam!

Sam Frierson is my Mother’s (Letty/Leticia) husband , my sister Morgan and Evelyn’s father, my step-father, Bam Bam’s dad and Gabriel’s grandfather. On Friday, May 9th Sam thought he may have strep and went to the Minute Clinic at CVS to be told he did not have strep and that it was just viral. On Sunday May 11th (Mother’s Day) Sam was taken to Lexington Medical Center due to his throat being so swollen that it was interfering with his ability to breathe properly. They started with a scope through his nose and due to the swelling,they were unable to see anything - it was off to surgery for Sam. During surgery, they found two ruptured abscesses in his throat and learned the infection had spread throughout his throat and thoracic cavity. Doctors admitted Sam to ICU and he was placed on a ventilator. In the days that followed, he had multiple throat surgeries to clean out bacteria and had multiple cultures pulled. Fluid was drained from his left lung and bacteria different from his throat was found. The doctors at LMC told us they had done all they could do and it was out of their hands and requested for Sam to be transferred to MUSC. Thursday, May 16th, Sam, on a ventilator, was transferred by ambulance from the ICU at LMC to the Medical University of Charleston SC. With all this being said, Sam has had multiple throat/lung surgeries to clean the bacteria in addition to cat scans, X-rays and much more. The doctors at MUSC are saying Sam has pneumonia in his right lung. Sam has been out of work and the outcome of all of this is very uncertain. It has been an emotional time but also weighs on us heavily financially - currently my mom is the only source of income. Sam has not been employed by Brookland Cayce HS for a year, so he does not qualify for short term or long term disability nor FMLA. Any help is truly appreciated and we thank you all for the bottom of our hearts. Please continue to pray for Sammy that he pulls through this, because we know he has so much left to do in this world.
