John Blume
Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Friend.
All of us know him as either one of these. Some are lucky enough so be called family to him. He would say he is the lucky one though.
Through lifes trials and tribulations he has persevered. His will and determination are as strong now as they were then.
About 6 years ago John was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. 2.5 years ago this condition took a turn for the worse. A simple blister turned into a massive infection. Over the course of 2 years listening to all the doctor's recommendations and going to multiple appointments. In and out of the hospital for multiple surgeries to try and cut out serious infections or for simple infections. John was faced with a serious dilemma. One day after working a long 10hr shift he went to his regular doctors appointment with massive pain coupled with dizzy spells. The doctor told him he need to go to the hospital again! This time he and his family had to decide between being sick all the time and his foot/leg MIGHT heal or amputation.
The choice was made for amputation. He had a below the knee amputation performed. It has been 4 months since John's amputation. His fighting spirit and determination and positive outlook on life has inspired many. He is on many forums and websites and is revered for being a beacon of light for most he talks to and shares his story with. He has been asked to become a mentor with an outreach group that deals specifically with peers with prosthetics.
He already has been fitted for his first prosthesis. What I did not know like most of the general public does not know. You go through multiple stages of prostetics similar as we do when we learn to walk as infants and toddlers.
These prostetics are not cheap even after insurance helps pay for some. Some can reach $5,000.00 and more. With John not being able to work and his wife working as much as she can. Not to mention all the dr visits, follow up visits, the E.R. visits, the surgeries, and the mounting Bills that come from having a home, vehicles, and children.
I am asking for donations for him and his family to help with the ever growing Bills and future costs he and his family may have to endure.
Every little helps.
Thank you!
As John says "think positive".
