Derrick Larrea is my brother. He is only 28-years-old and renseltly received a heart transplant . Derrick was born with serious heart defects that are very difficult to overcome. He was diagnosed with a hypoplastic left heart, single ventricle, unbalanced AV canal, pulmonary atresia, and heterodoxy syndrome with asplenia. Despite these conditions, he has been able to overcome an incredible amount of obstacles due to his optimistic outlook on life. Against all odds, he has lived an incredible 28 years of life and has never had a problem with making each day count. Derrick has even held a full-time job and completed a Associates degree in Miami Dade College while living in the hospital over 420 days.Unfortunately, His condition has declined but is fighting to live.
Transplants are lifesaving, but the costs are more than Derrick can handle alone. Even with health insurance, Derrick’s doctors have estimated his post-transplant annual medical care to exceed $50,000. Co-pays, deductibles, doctor visits, travel fees and more, continue to add up for Derrick each and every day. In addition, Derrick will be required to take anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life once he has his heart transplant. These drugs, required for the lifetime of all transplant recipients will average over $2500 per month. Fundraising is essential to the overall success of Derrick’s outcome and life after his transplant.
To help with this financial burden please contribute and its greatly appreciated.
Derrick feels very blessed with loving and supportive family and friends who help in so many ways. Your prayers, generosity and kindness are truly treasured and will help Derrick through this difficult time.
Gratefully,
His sisters
