ELMWOOD VS SKATEBOARDING Luis Martinez defense

Donation protected

While briefly in Elmwood last year, retired pro-skateboarder Luis Martinez made little skateboards (similar to Tech Decks) to pass the time. Other inmates saw the skateboards and asked to help design and build them. Seeing this as a way to keep the guys occupied, Luis got them involved drawing graphics and putting together the boards. All was well until the guards caught on and examined the boards. The trucks were made with metal, a staple, which is not permitted. Initially, the skateboards were confiscated and Luis was released two weeks later. Unbeknownst to Luis, the district attorney decided to press charges of ‘manufacturing weapons’ in regards to the skateboards. He has been fighting this charge since November. The lawyer fees are costly - currently at $7000. The sentence has been reduced from 5 years to 3 months, but unfortunately the bill remains the same! Any help to fight this ridiculous charge is appreciated!
