I once joked that I was going to set up a Gofundme page for my National Geographic trip aroud the world. I never imagined I would be creating a page for my precious baby niece, Harper. Even after the trips to UVA and CHOP, this all still seems surreal.
It took consistent persuading to get approval to establish this page. Cassidy and Danny are far more comfortable in giving than they are receiving and they do not ask for help. In playing my big sister role, I was able pull rank and say, “I’m older and still the boss of you.” Of course I would never go against their wishes or not ask before doing something, so I did get their blessing to create this page to raise money for Harper’s medical bills and associated costs. In the span of one month, tough little Harper had to make 5 trips to UVA, 2 trips to CHOP, spent a week in Philadelphia, had to undergo one surgery, had 3 scans (under anesthesia), and two different biopsies.
In addition to the stress and fear of their child being diagnosed with cancer, Cassidy and Danny then have the added bonus of expenses such as, copayments, prescriptions, gas for long road trips, food, lodging, tolls, and even parking fees. That is just the first month and beginning of this journey. While I know Harper will be a champion and do extremely well, her treatment and associated bills will still be quite expensive, adding significant stress to an already difficult situation.
Any contribution amount is greatly appreciated to help ease the financial stress on Cassidy and Danny. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Note: Should donations exceed medical bills, any additional amount will be given to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. ALSF started with one lemonade stand, hosted by the founder, Alexandra “Alex” Scott, in her front yard which raised $2,000. Alex was just 4 years old and battling neuroblastoma when she asked to give the money so doctors can find cures for all children battling cancer.
