- Hi, My name is Dan Murphy and I’m raising money for my younger brother Jon Murphy’s return to his home in Dexter NY. In June of 2021 Jon had a cancerous kidney removed, but they didn’t get all the cancer. Jon was going to immune therapy sessions when he started having pain in both feet, then in both knees. In October of 2021 I drove him to his doctors office so he could get cortisone shots for his “arthritis” which wasn’t arthritis but Guillain Barre Syndrome. Which was diagnosed in November 2021. Since then Jon’s been hospitalized and spends his time going from rehabilitation facility to hospital and back.
- His doctors have estimated a 6 to 10 month rehabilitation time before he can come home. His current bathroom is on the second floor and I’ve got room for a first floor handicapped accessible bathroom. But it’s extremely costly to have built out and that’s the reason for this page is to help defray the costs of Jon coming home. I’ve gotten offers from tradesmen friends that have volunteered their services for installation which will save thousands and I’m extremely grateful for any and all help. He is going to need an “engine hoist” type of set up to lift him out of his hospital bed into wheelchair. These types of equipment aren’t cheap either, but if I need to customize an old engine hoist to work I will do that.
