This Summer I have the exciting opportunity to attend the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Summer Intensive. Hubbard Street has been my favorite dance company for several years now, and I am so excited to learn from these incredible dancers and choreographers. Hubbard Street has some of the most beautiful dancers I have ever seen in their company, not to mention their incredible list of choreographers that set work for them.
This past summer I had an invasive surgery to remove seven very painful and restrictive bone fragments that were lodged in several different parts of my ankle joint. Due to complications of the initial surgery, however, I had to have a second equally as invasive revision surgery a month later. To put into words the fear, pain, and emotional torment that I endured throughout the process is difficult. Dance is my entire life and my biggest passion, so to lose that for over nine months turned my life upside down.
For the past nine months I have spent about 20 hours a week at Physical Therapy in addition to slowly returning to dance classes in a limited capacity. However, I am excited to announce that as of this week I have been finally been cleared by my team of doctors to dance at full capacity. A lot of work stands between me and achieving my technical dance goals before this intensive even begins. However, I know that I will reach the level of technique I am accustomed to, because of the work ethic this series of injuries has instilled within me.
Going to Hubbard Street this summer will not only help me return to my fullest potential of technique and artistry, but also regain confidence in my abilities after 9 months of grueling rehabilitation. Because this is my dream company, any and all exposure to the directors, choreographers, and dancers, is extremely important for my future. I consider this summer intensive not only an important part of my summer training, but an investment for my future as an artist. Please consider helping me attain my dream of attending Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Pre-Professional Repertoire Intensive this summer! Every little bit helps, and I am so thankful to everyone who supports me and my dreams. Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
