Officer Josh Rigney of the Nez Perce Tribal Police is a third generation law enforcement officer. On 04/17/19 Officer Josh Rigney was ambushed at his home while off duty. Two of his family’s three small children were playing in the back yard when the gunman exchanged a volley of gunfire with Josh at front door of the residence. Josh’s wife was tending to their 8 month old child upstairs when the incident occurred. Josh sustained two gunshot wounds, one to the upper chest and one to his knee. Josh took cover after the firefight and continued to protect his family while emergency medical services were summoned. The gunman was located shortly after his encounter with Josh and fired upon multiple Lewiston Idaho police department officers. A pursuit ensued and the gunman was subsequently killed as a result of a firefight with numerous LPD officers. No additional officers were injured during this exchange. Josh has had multiple surgeries and possibly more to come. Josh’s knee was severely damaged. Josh is known by many as an outstanding policeman but also as an amazing son, brother, husband, and father. Josh is in good spirits and maintaining his relentless warrior mindset. Josh’s medical expenses are mounting rapidly. This is where we come in!!!! Officer Rigney and his family need our help, not only with medical expenses but with funds to assist his family as he recovers. Let’s all show our support by donating what we can to help relieve the financial stresses accrued on the road back to protecting and serving the community he took an oath to serve.
