Please help Ayden and Riley bring their Dad home from a 7 month stay in hospital. Rob‘s wife Sarina and sons Riley 8 and Ayden 11 are home in Prince George patiently waiting for him to come back to them . We are looking for help for our good friend Rob Lonsdale.Rob is battling a very rare neurological condition called CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy) This disease occurs when the immune system turns on itself and begins to strip the myelin, which protects the nerves, from the nervous system, primarily peripherally in the arms and legs. Over a period of 3 months Rob lost all use of his legs and feet. He has no feeling in them and cannot move them. His arms and hands are almost as bad. Personal hygiene is next to impossible. He cannot put his pants on or pull them down. Because his hands are so gibbled he struggles to eat, unable to use a knife and fork. He has little strength in his hands...has trouble holding a phone or dialling the numbers. This disease causes extreme fatigue and loss of coordination. Because CIDP is so rare there are few neurologists who are familiar with it. Fortunately he has one of them but she is in Vancouver. They need to shut down his immune system, scary thought. So far nothing has been effective. Most treatments require 2 to 6 months before any improvement are visible. Currently Rob is in GF Strong, a rehab hospital in Vancouver. His doctor there, a physiatrist, says it will likely be 2 or 3 years before significant improvements will be seen and he has no idea what Rob will get back. He is quite certain that Rob’s feet and ankles will not recover. Occupational therapists and physiotherapists work Rob daily from morning till late afternoon. They are determined to build up his strength and stamina and teach him new ways to do things that we don’t even think twice about. Their job is to ready him to go home safe and somewhat independent. They are hopeful he can be ready by June 26th . His home needs to be readied too. So Rob has quite a battle in front of him with a lot of expenses. Because his neurologist, some tests and treatments are in Vancouver he will be having travel expenses several times a year. His doctor says he must have an electric wheelchair for use in his home as he has not the strength to use a manual one. The chair will have to be modified as that is what he will be in at all times when not in bed. His bathroom needs to be refit to enable him to shower and even wash at a sink. He will need some basic exercise equipment to enable continued use of his arms and legs. At this time he needs a portable lift to get him safely from bed to bathroom and wheelchair. He will also need a couple of ramps. Rob has seen his family once since early February. He wants to go home. Please help him get there. Rob is a great friend and an awesome person. Any amount helps and we thank you.
Side note: in order for we pay and go fund me to send the funds I must tell you it gets deposited to my account (Tanya Mould) and from there gets E transferred to Rob and Serina.
