With this Go Fund Me request, I am humbly asking for help to make my son’s wish come true to take a genealogical adventure with his Grandpa Kurt. Sebastian shares a curiosity and love of genealogy with his Grandpa Kurt, who is an expert in it. Kurt has worked for years to build a family tree that dates back hundreds of years and he works to connect with distant family in other countries. Kurt is going to Ireland this August and Sebastian has asked to travel to Ireland to meet his distant relatives and have this experience with his Grandpa Kurt. There’s no telling if Kurt will make it to Ireland again in his lifetime and I refuse to let Sebastian miss this opportunity to share meeting his Irish relatives with the family expert on genealogy simply because I don’t have the money.
Please know that a savings strategy was in place at the end of last year to plan for this special occasion. Then as is often the case, life threw us a curve ball when Sebastian was diagnosed with a chronic health problem that requires monthly medication, supplementation and a specialty diet. These issues should be short term, 12-18 months to treat/clear I hope, and the expense of them has shifted my “savings for Ireland” each month to health costs.
This go fund me is an ask of family, community and of the universe to help Sebastian get his wish to travel to Ireland with his grandpa Kurt. It’s a special ask in our family for him to want to connect as his dad and I are divorced. I’ve always worked to make sure that Sebastian doesn’t feel this divide and that our divorce has a minimal impact if any on his experience of “family”. To that end, there’s extra significance for Sebastian’s desire to support his Grandpa’s genealogy work, begin to learn it for himself and desire so strongly at the young age of 7 to travel across the Pacific Ocean to connect with his relatives in Ireland.
