I’m Dave... and I'm a Vagabond!
… an actor, artist, director and teacher.
I have a rare form of CTC lymphoma. It’s progressive and though currently my condition seems under control Doctors understand that this will not last long and I need to move forward in treatment while in my best health.
Currently, I am a BMT (Bone Marrow/ Stem Cell Transplant) candidate at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
I’m told as we fight forward there is a fifty –fifty chance I may be able to be clear of cancer through an allogeneic stem cell transplant, which is essentially a bone marrow transplant from a matched donor.
A bone marrow transplant is the main hope for people with blood cancers. The procedure is associated with physical difficulties, prolonged hospitalization and is quite pricey for patients and their loved ones.
I will need to be admitted to the hospital prior to the transplant to receive chemotherapy and radiation to wipe out my immune system. The entire transplant process will take place at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC.
And Yes! - I do have an amazing medical team helping me through this.
I will be hospitalized for several weeks, and then be required to live near the hospital for month(s) following the transplant for follow-up testing, treatments, etc.
I’m currently planning to have my loved ones stay near the hospital, though we have not yet made specific plans. During this time I will be trying to help cover costs at two locations and continue health insurance through Cobra .
