Tara and her brother Jay have been affected by cancer their entire life. Losing their father to esophageal cancer when they were only four and two years old in June of 2001. This left their Mom, Chris Belloma a single mother of two. Throughout the years, Chris made sure ends were met by working two jobs putting both of her children through Catholic school. It was not easy, but they were able to make things work. In June 2016, Chris was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer that had metastasized to her bones which left her very weak and in pain. The treatment option for this was hormone-based chemotherapy, medications and radiation treatments on her femur bones. The radiation in her legs caused them to become even weaker which unfortunately led to more surgery where they attached metal rods to the femur bones in both legs to stabilize them so that she would be able to receive more radiation treatments. After a year of treatment Chris seemed to be doing better until she went in for another checkup. Unfortunately, they found several spots in the soft tissue behind her eye This caused pressure to build up on her optic nerve causing Chris pain and blurred vision. They tried another round of radiation to stop the cancer from spreading more. With this type of cancer, it was not possible for her to go into remission, but to only be able to stop it from spreading further. Last year, her doctor had her try different types of chemotherapy pills with horrible side effects. The treatments seemed to make her feel sicker. In late 2018 and early 2019 Chris was becoming weaker, she was in and out of hospitals. In March 2019, they decided to do an MRI where they found that the cancer had spread to her brain. Leptomeningeal carcinoma to be exact. This type of cancer is rare, only occurring in 5% of people with cancer, it spreads to the membrane in the brain and spinal cord. Chris has been a true example of strength; not only through fighting cancer but providing and raising two amazing children on her own. Unfortunately, at this time Chris is now in hospice care, which is the reason behind this go fund me. As you can imagine; with Chris, the main provider in the household in hospice and not able to work, this has created a financial hardship for the children to endure. If all friends and family, coworkers, or even strangers that understand how devastating this type of situation is, maybe we can help ease the financial burden slightly. If we all can give a donation, even that smallest donation would help the children provide funeral arrangements & household expenses so they can remain in the home as they go through this and help them get back on their feet in the future. This will not be easy, but with the generosity of friends, family we can help ease the pain. I thank you in advanced from the bottom of my heart.
