Hello family and friends,
Howard and I are at a financial place that we need to ask our community to help us fund the expensive travel to LA--in order to complete his procedures through the NurOwn clinical trial.
While it remains true that there is no cure for ALS, this Phase 3 clinical trial for stem cell treatment is the most promising treatment ever seen for this condition. Developed by a small Biotech firm called Brainstorm, the NurOwn process cultivates stem cells from the patent's own bone marrow, and then injects the stem cells in to the patent's spinal canal. This is the only treatment to have ever shown the ability to not only slow down the progression of the disease, but to also stop the progression and even bring about a reversal of the condition.
Once Phase 3 is complete, Brainstorm will seek FDA approval of NurOwn. 2020 can't come soon enough for all of us connected to Howard --and victims of this awful disease.
In October 2018, Howard and I made the first of 14-16 trips he'll need to make over the course of 12 months to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in LA. Unfortunately, there is no reimbursement for travel expense--flights, lodging, transportation, etc. 16 trips to LA along with our reduced income, puts us in need of extra support.
There are absolutely no better options that to continue to this trial for him. Its a helluva lot better than doing nothing, and sitting on the couch counting the days. Best-case scenario, the treatments during the trial improve Howard's condition, possibly allowing him to continue working, or better, keeping him well enough for long enough, so that once NurOwn is widely available he can benefit. Because, as harsh as it is, he may only be in the placebo group for this trial. :-(
