Gachie Community Center Fund
Donation protected
IT'S ALMOST A REALITY!!
We need your help! After years of planning, thousands of volunteer hours, and incredible community support, the Gachie villagers are anticipating the opening of their new community center/library.
We need $3,982 to pay the unexpected additional customs fees to release the 44,000 library and schoolbooks and vocational training supplies that have been shipped from Portland, Oregon.
The donated materials arrived in the Mombasa, Kenya port in November 2015 and will be released from customs as soon as these funds can be raised.
Please help support this impoverished community by donating to promote literacy and job training. The community center will provide a safe place for children and will empower women to learn new skills and improve their lives.
The Story Behind the Vision:
Wambui Machua was born and raised in the village of Gachie, Kenya with no electricity or running water. She often found escape from these difficult conditions by reading the books she loved in candlelight. Memories of these hardships have driven Wambui to give back to her community. Moving to the US has enabled Wambui to gather the support to make this dream a reality.
The Gachie Community Center will be opening in December 2015. Thanks to the Beaverton Rotary Club (http://www.rotarybooksfortheworld.org), Spice of Africa, numerous volunteers and your donations. To learn more and follow the progress of the Gachie Community Center, please visit Spice of Africa
