Threshold birthdays are like buoys in the water - markers that seem so far away at times, but we reach them, and then they are past...
This week, there are sixty buoys in the water... I wanted a challenge for my 60th birthday, but I could not find anything that spoke to me, that inspired me... then inspiration arrived in an unexpected way...
Becca Brossard is a petite 11 year old participating in La Nuit Blanche (The White Night) an all night swim event (April 12 to April 13) to raise funds for the local youth swim club, Club de Natation Mont Tremblant.
Becca's goal is to swim 150 laps in her 1.5 hour shift of the 12 hour overnight swim. My goal is somewhere south of that, more in the neighborhood of 60 laps in 60 minutes... It's way out of my comfort zone, but that's what makes it a challenge.
But, here's the catch, I need you to help me with this challenge. I am joining Becca in this swim not just for the physical (and mental) challenge, but to raise money for our local youth swim club. Her dedication to this sport has inspired me to leave my comfort zone on the deck, and get wet (and tired) for a good cause.
Sixty years ago it was 1959, and our goal is to raise $1,959 for Club de Natation Mont Tremblant - one dollar to mark each year. There are 60 buoys are in the water. Let's make them count by raising money for this tremendous club that is a such a valuable asset to our young people.
We'll do the swimming, but we'll count on you to help us reach our fund raising goal.
