19 year old needs help

Hi, my name is Valerie Wolfe-Polgar and I am collecting money to help a nineteen y/o pay for rent at the Elmwood Hotel in Auburn, CA until a space is available at a treatment facility for eating disorders. This gal already has multiple system organ failure, she is so weak she can no longer stand. A friend of hers took her in a few months ago, but this family is facing eviction if she continues to stay there overnight. She will be spending most of her time with the King family, but your donations will help with rent, food and doctor's bills.

12/15/21: Hello. I wanted to give an update regarding the 19 y/o gal who needs a place to stay while waiting for inpatient eating disorder treatment. Last night I went over to Teresa King's house to meet the King family and to meet "Jane Doe". The King's are very kind people and have lived and thrived in Auburn for 25 years. They have made lots of calls and seem to be on lots of lists to get Jane help. Jane D. is very appreciative and is working on her issues - the immediate crisis is her lack of eating - which has improved, but is still a huge work in process. A little info: Jane has had a rough time from Day one - she was born prematurely and had to be detoxed before going "home". She has been abused by various people, has been homeless, but somehow managed to graduate high school and get a job. The Kings took her in because Teresa's son noticed that she could hardly work due to broken ribs (her mother was intoxicated and upset that 19 y/o Jane got a tattoo without asking for permission). This is just the latest incident, not the worst. Auburnites/Gold Country folks have been incredibly supportive. THANK YOU. We have raised $1000 dollars thus far (in just 24 hours)- enough for 2 weeks at the Elmwood hotel. Teresa has friends staying at the Elmwood while their home is being fixed up, so Jane will have people close by. Please pass this request along. I am hoping to raise another $1000 for 2 more weeks at the motel and $250 for the Eating Disorder Copay. If she gets in earlier I'll keep the money to help her get situated after treatment. THANKS AGAIN. I really feel warmed - like our community continues to try to take care of others, even strangers. I hope you are safe and sound this holiday season.

12/20/21: Hello and Happy Holidays. I hope everyone is well. Things are rapidly moving for Jane Doe.  On Saturday she moved to a motel ($530/week). She has also looked at a few of the apartment options and interviewed with a treatment center that has an opening. On Tuesday (tomorrow) she is scheduled to do the medical eval for a local treatment center that may have an opening.  I'll leave another update here when I have more info. Thanks to everyone for helping out and sending good wishes. Stay safe.

12/24/21: Christmas Eve Update re: 19 y/o needs help
First, Thank You Foothill Neighbors for your extremely generous contributions, offers of rooms to rent, prayers and suggestions re: getting help.  You all have been amazing!!!

On Tuesday, Jane was medically evaluated, met criteria for inpatient care (not too sick, not too well) and it looked like she would be starting at a local inpatient treatment facility for folks with eating disorders.  Unfortunately, when Jane went to fill out the paperwork at the treatment center she found out the treatment facility does not take Med-i-cal insurance.

As a result, she/we have been making calls and trying to get more info re: health insurance options, cheaper places to rent (all full or inappropriate for now); financial aid; and resources from the County - particularly related to the basics of room, board and treatment.
Also this past week, Jane went to Placer County Human Svs  for a needs assessment, they were supposed to get back to her with a plan on Wednesday- but they did not contact her yet.  We have tried to call for an update, but no response yet. We also left a message for Lisa Long, the patient advocate for Placer County to try to get help.

Another option being explored is signing up with a private insurance.  As it is open enrollment she can sign on with Sutter, an insurance that the treatment agency will  accept. The monthly cost for Sutter would be $450, with a max out of pocket being $4,500. To start getting services in January she will have to sign up by 12/31/21.

We called Stand Up Placer, unfortunately, they could not help us as their criteria for helping is that the person has to still be living in the abusive situation.

Jane has also looked at some of the spaces offered for no/low rent, but she is still very fragile and its better for her to stay in the motel for now. She is spending lots of time with the Kings - and will be there for much of Christmas.

3 months ago Jane was thinking that if she passed, that would be ok, but now she wants to live, engage in treatment and pursue classes and a career.  She is trying to eat, but is gaging and vomiting up much of the food. The physician on Monday told Jane that she is still in danger of having serious organ failure, but was pleased that she has gone from eating one meal/week of about 500 calories to one meal a day of about 500 calories.

I am sure this will be a long journey, but Jane is getting better and is incredibly appreciate of all the warm wishes, suggestions and donations. As someone mentioned on the Nextdoor app, even knowing that people care can be a powerful motivator and very healing. Jane will be spending time with the Kings over the holiday and I will keep trying to help as I can. I am going to raise the goal of this gofundme - again all donations will go to housing or health care costs. So far, amazingly we have raised about $2,700.  Also a sweet person paid for the next week at the motel - so housing is ensured for another week.

I hope this info brings you some hope, we will be persistent and I'll try to send an update weekly. Well wishes and blessings to you all...
