Hello everyone! My name is Indica DeRose and this is my film, "17". This film is my last project for the Narrative film program at CSULB.

Synopsis:

The story follows a teenager, Lavinia, as she becomes entangled in a toxic relationship with Francis, an older, manipulative man. Drawn into his twisted desires, Lavinia quickly realizes the danger she is in, leading to a confrontation where she envisions a violent act of justice. The film explores the deep psychological scars left by abuse, highlighting Lavinia's struggle to reclaim her identity and find healing amidst the trauma.

This film highlights a subject that we feel is very important to bring to light in this day and age. Every day, there are people in similar situations to Lavinia. We hope that this film can contribute to a bigger discussion and eventually break a toxic cycle perpetuated by problematic portrayals of age-gap relationships in the media.

As students, producing a short film involves not only a lot of time and effort but also the right resources to achieve the desired vision. We are set to film in late October over the course of 3 days. The support you can provide by donating will be immensely helpful throughout our time making this film.

BUDGET BREAKDOWN:

Location – We are looking to rent out a location that can effectively serve as the setting for the events of the film. With this decision not only includes rental fees, but also permit fees as well.

Catering/Crafty – Filmmaking is a labor-intensive job, and we want to be able to provide meals for our crew of 20+ for all three days of shooting. Not only do we want to make sure we can feed our entire crew, but also be able to serve healthy food that is nourishing and keeps them energized for the long days of shooting that will occur.

Equipment – We are grateful enough to be supplied equipment by our school’s department, however, we require some additional equipment outside of what the school can provide.

Intimacy coordinator - Since this film involves heavy subject matter we need an intimacy coordinator on set to make sure our actors are comfortable.

SFX artist - We will need to hire an SFX to handle a gorey scene.

Production Design – The set design and props are an imperative aspect of filmmaking, and we hope to invest money into creating a unique and believable look for the film. Some of your favorite films owe their beautiful or captivating looks to the production design of the set.

Festivals – Planning ahead for the future, once we finish the entire production process of the film, we wish to start sharing “17” by submitting it to film festivals. However, that process comes with a price, and we hope to obtain funds to cover festival fees when we submit.
