1. Aim
To initiate and deliver a platoon-level charity fundraising event in the form of a collective mini-triathlon, covering a total of 610 km, in order to raise funds for the Sandhurst Trust and its cooperating partners, while fostering teamwork, resilience, and esprit de corps.
⸻
2. Concept
The platoon will complete a simulated endurance challenge representing the historic route from Sandhurst to Ypres and return. The total distance of 610 km will be achieved collectively through three physical activities:
• Running: 340 km
• Cycling: 200 km
• Rowing: 70 km
Participants will contribute individually toward the cumulative distance.
⸻
3. Scenario Narrative (Simulation)
The event will follow a themed operational route to enhance engagement and meaning:
• The platoon will “advance” from Sandhurst, running along a simulated route via the M3, M25, and M20 corridors, culminating at Dover Port.
• From Dover, participants will row the equivalent distance across the Strait of Dover to Calais.
• Upon “landing,” the platoon will cycle onward to Ypres, completing the outward journey.
• The return leg will be completed in reverse, contributing to the overall 610 km total distance.
This narrative is symbolic and conducted in a controlled training environment, not on live roads.
⸻
4. Objectives
• Primary:
• Raise funds for the Sandhurst Trust and affiliated charitable partners.
• Secondary:
• Enhance physical robustness and endurance across the platoon.
• Strengthen team cohesion and collective accountability.
• Promote charitable awareness and engagement within the Academy.
⸻
5. Execution
• The event will be conducted over an allocated training period (TBC).
• Distances will be completed using safe and authorised training facilities (e.g., gym equipment, designated running routes).
• Each platoon member will contribute proportionally to the total distance.
Endstate
• Successful completion of 610 km collectively.
• Funds raised and donated to the Sandhurst Trust and its partners.
• Demonstrated platoon cohesion, resilience, and commitment to service beyond self.
