Hi, I'm Shawn and my son's closest friend was senselessly shot and murdered in Chicago this week. Uriel Rogers-Knox was a sweet and kind 16 year old soul that I have had the pleasure to know over the past several years. He came into my life at 2 years old when he showed up to my oldest sons birthday party with his older brothers Charles and Ezekiel. When the party was over, the three boys bonded with my three boys while waiting for their ride home and we have all been like family ever since. I've known Uriel both inside and outside of the classroom, professionally and intimately and he was a kind soul. He had an infectious smile and a unique personality. He did nothing to deserve what happened to him. He was a close friend to my youngest son, he felt like a younger brother to all of my children and he will be truly missed. Had I known that when my husband and I put him on the plane last summer after visiting with us in Georgia, we would have hugged him a little tighter. This is a tragedy and it was unwarranted. Please help my friend, Mrs. Knox, her children and all of their loved ones to bear this weight a little better by relieving them of the extra burden that these expenses have added to their lives due to this devastating and unexpected situation.
