Beau is a remarkable 4 year old and today 21st October 2025, has 150 days to go in his current treatment plan for B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
When he completes his treatment he will have endured 759 days since the start of treatment. 764 days since his diagnosis.
Beau doesn’t get to skip a day of treatment, he takes his chemo every day fairly willingly ❤️After about 9 months he started his maintenance therapy but it’s not without challenges. He puts up with how awful he feels when he is on steroids or when his bloods are low. He rarely misses a day in his much loved preschool even on the weeks where he needs pain relief to give his joints some ease from the side effects of his chemo.
As his parents we are with him every step of the way and we have walked this journey with the support of some amazing charities and want to acknowledge them. Last Christmas his preschool, Eco Preschool, raised over €2000 for Aoibhinns Pink Tie and during the summer Beaus Gran and Granda held an event that raised over €2000 for Cancer Fund for Children.
We still have a list of organisations and charities that we would love to support and at the top of the list are the 2 wards in CUH and Crumlin where his haematology oncology teams are that have provided the skill, expertise and immense compassion and care for Beau and for us. We want to give back to them in some way. Every week these organisations and charities are supporting another family in crisis.
So for 150 days from today, 21st October we will commit to some sort of movement or exercise every day that takes us out of our comfort zone. The only rule being, no missed days, no opportunity to skip a day. It might be as short as a 1.5km run or we might manage 5km, it could be 150 skips, 15 flights of stairs, 150 squats or 15 mins on a rowing machine or the old exercise bike that you never use. But we promise to show up daily and not skip a day. The theme is 15
So we invite ye along on the journey. Join in on the 150 days of commitment to something, an extra 1500 steps, a walk, a jog, a cycle, a row, something that takes effort but actually ultimately, will benefit your overall health ❤️. And in doing it you’ll walk with all the kids who don’t get to skip a day of their treatment regimen. You’re not accountable to anyone but yourself.
We are being ambitious here but we have a list of charities and each time we raise €1500 we will move on to the next one. If we even give something small to one charity we will be happy. Here they are just so you know what we are aiming for;
1. Safari Unit, CUH
2. St John’s Ward, CHI Crumlin
3. Hand in Hand Charity, Galway
4. Childhood Cancer Ireland
5. Children’s Leukaemia Association, Cork
6. Little Blue Heroes
7. Irish Cancer Society
8. Clionas
9. Barretstown
10. Make A Wish
Imagine if we made it full circle and could add Aoibhinns Pink Tie and Cancer Fund for Children onto the end of that list. And if we get to the end we’ll just go back to the start again. Many of these charities get little to no government funding.
So we would love if you would commit to joining us or sponsoring us or both☺️. Perhaps you can’t take up something but could give up 15 coffees and donate the proceeds
If you can’t do either, consider donating blood or platelets. There are so many more ways than money to support these kids. Do what you can❤️
We figure if you have made it to the end of this then you are likely to be someone who has supported us along our journey already to date. In whatever form that took, a card or a chat or a dinner, or including us in your prayers, thank you for being there. While much of the early days in particular were a blur, we will never forget the kindness of our families, friends and neighbours during this time in our lives.
Beaus end of treatment date isn’t promised to us, we live in the hope that we will get to put this era in the past and move forward with life and that Beau will finish his treatment and stay well. Beau is our real life little superhero and we adore him and his big brothers.
This is for all the kids and their families who live with cancer every single day ❤️
