“There was never a night or a problem that could defeat the sunrise of hope.”
— Bernard Williams
In 2008, BGifted Foundation was founded on a belief both simple and profound:
that even in places marked by war, disease, and deprivation, hope can be built—carefully, creatively, and together.
Two years later, in 2010, that belief took tender, tangible form through what became one of our most enduring initiatives:
the Show Some Love Teddy Bear Project.
A teddy bear may seem small.
In communities shaped by loss, it can mean everything.
For over a decade, BGifted has worked alongside children in some of Sierra Leone’s most marginalized communities—places where childhood is too often interrupted by poverty, post-war trauma, epidemics, flooding, and neglect. In neighborhoods like Kroobay in Freetown, children grow up amid overcrowded housing, contaminated water, and fragile health systems. Some sleep in abandoned boats. Many have lost parents. All carry burdens no child should bear.
And yet—what endures is resilience.
The Teddy Bear Project was never about toys alone. It was about recognition.
A child receiving their first teddy bear.
A school bag placed into waiting hands.
Books, balls, small gifts of joy—delivered not as charity, but as affirmation.
The message is quiet but profound:
You matter. You are seen. You are not alone.
over the years B-Gifted, raised through grassroots giving funds that help the organization reach over 1000 children in Kroobay, Oslo Amputee Camp, Kroobay and many others. The impact far exceeded the sum. Smiles returned. Laughter echoed. For a brief but meaningful moment, childhood was restored.
Over the years, BGifted has extended this work to children in:
• Amputee camps in Makeni
• Post-war communities in Bo
• Kaningo, Lakka Beach, and Kroobay in Freetown
What began in 2010 as a modest effort has become a living tradition of care, carried forward by youth leaders, volunteers, and supporters who believe that dignity is not optional—it is essential.
Now, as we mark 15 years of service, we are not celebrating an ending.
We are standing at a threshold.
The needs remain urgent.
The children are still waiting.
And hope still depends on being carried from Christmas into the New Year..
Your donation today will:
• Bring tangible comfort and joy to children living in extreme hardship
• Support education materials and child-centered relief efforts
• Sustain a project that has quietly changed lives for over a decade
This is not abstract giving.
It is personal.
It is human.
It is hope, made visible.
If you believe that no child should grow up unseen;
If you believe that small acts, rooted in love, can disrupt despair;
If you believe that 15 years of commitment deserves to become the foundation for the next 15—
Please give. Please share. Please help us carry hope forward.
Together, let us ensure that the sunrise continues to rise—
one child, one community, one act of love at a time.
With gratitude and resolve,
Andrew Benson Greene

“I once was like these children—full of hope, yet shaped by hardship. The simple act of returning even a single smile, passing on joy, and kindling hope in one child at a time fills me with a deep and abiding sense of purpose. For a generation marked by war and its effects, Ebola, and devastating floods, these moments of laughter and light lift the heavy burdens they carry. When a child feels care and kindness—through a doll, a book, or a gentle embrace—they learn to carry it forward, sharing love and hope with others. With the dedication of our youth volunteers and the steadfast support of friends, we are bringing these sparks of hope from Freetown to Bunce Island, from Baltimore to The Bronx—and you can help us make that light shine even brighter and carry it even forward.”
