13 year old Broken Hip & Avascular Necrosis
Donation protected
My name is Cassandra and my son, Dantè (13 years old) broke his hip at Scouts in February 2021 after being unexpectedly tackled by someone. Dantè was diagnosed with a left displaced femoral neck fracture, whereby the neck had been completely severed.
The next morning he received an open reduction internal fixation, where 3 large screws were inserted into his hip.
Unfortunately Dantè's recovery has not been swift nor easy. He lives every day in chronic pain. He has not been able to attend school and will begin Distance Education in 2022. Dantè is unable to partake in normal teenage activities and he struggles to even walk short distances.
He has now (8/12/2021) been diagnosed with Avascular Necrosis (AVN), a rare disorder that can occur after a traumatic injury. Dantè needs to now use mobility aids to get around as he is not allowed to bear weight.
It is uncertain how long the next stage of his "recovery" might take. He is waiting to have the pins taken out to see if this might aid the revascularization of blood flow to the femoral head.
Why a Go Fund Me?
I am unable to work full time so that I can be available to care for Dantè and run him to his appointments, our current laptop is inadequate for distance education, medication costs and general living expenses are also now adding up.
