12yr old dyslexic with a SuperPower needs help

Spende geschützt
My best friend Tim Hayes has a wonderful son called Seth and I am hoping to raise £1,851.57 to give him the chance he so deserves to follow his newfound Super Power and feel the joy of success.

Seth is 12 years old and is chronically dyslexic. He has spent his life struggling to read, write, spell, or follow any of his school lessons easily.

Even with a One to One teacher to help he sees his friends succeeding and yet he’s unable to get it right however hard he tries.

The result is the experience of failing over and over again and the horror of feeling stupid and humiliated in front of all his friends and being judged and criticised by teachers.

So for Seth going to school becomes a daily act of going into battle, with all the accompanying feelings of stress and trauma.

Due to this he has incredibly low self-esteem and fights and struggles every day, whether at school or at home, to try and make sense of WHY his brain doesn’t work like other people's.

He said; "You wouldn't want to be me. I feel worried as soon as I wake up every morning. I often feel sick in the pit of my stomach, and that’s before I’ve even got to school. But, once I get there, I get panicky and scared cos I know I won’t understand anything, yet again.

He, consequently, has frequent feelings of anxiety and depression.

So for Seth to suddenly discover he has a Super Power is absolutely amazing for him. He can’t quite believe it!

The joy of success:
Seth told me:

“Over the summer I’ve discovered I’m really good at building computers and designing graphics for computer games.

It’s the first thing I’ve ever LOVED doing! I just find it really easy for some reason.

I can see all the graphics visually in my head, like in 3D, it makes me think in a whole new way and I’ve got loads of brilliant ideas.

I don’t need to read or write so well as I watch training videos and I’m really good at maths too so numbers are easy. I’ve learned masses already!

Though to be able to get me to the next level of learning I need a new High-Spec gaming PC with a really powerful graphics card so I can expand on all the stuff I've been learning and do more of the advanced graphics projects etc. and grow my skills.

The trouble is I don't have a computer and my school laptop is Low-Res and slow so it couldn't begin to run the programmes I need plus it has school restrictions on it so I can't access the internet or download anything out of the curriculum.

The problem is I know Mum and Dad just don't have the money, so there's nothing much I can do really. I'll probably just have to stop and let it all go."

I was so excited for him as he’s never sounded so passionate or had the thrill of success in anything academic before.

I knew it was true about not being able to afford it as Tim had chronic heart failure a few years ago, which was extremely serious, so he had to give up his paid job. They, therefore, just manage to survive on one wage but have no extra cash to spare.

So I said to Seth: "Don't you worry there is just no way any of us are going to let this talent be quashed just through lack of money I'm going to find a way to help!"

With that promise made I am, therefore, trying to raise £1,851.57 to get Seth a High-Spec gaming PC so he can expand on this newfound talent plus get him some voice-activated software for his dyslexia so he can interact with all his computer programmes with ease without the worry of having to type or spell.

Tim is chronically dyslexic too, as it runs in the family, so he understands Seth’s fear and frustration with learning only too well as he suffered chronically during his school days and felt a complete failure too. He bigs Seth up every day in any way he can.

So he’s thrilled to find Seth has such an amazing talent and knows just how VITAL it is, as a dyslexic, to find your SUPER POWER, the one thing you really excel at, especially if you can find it at a young age like this, and he knows Seth must do everything possible to follow it.

Seth is at the brink of a huge turning point in his school life as, at 12 years old, learning becomes a serious issue as you're heading for your GCSEs and A levels, etc, and the shaping of your future.

This new skill will give him so much more confidence to face these challenges as he could now excel at computer science and IT and, who knows, maybe even go on to do it at university.

Tim's absolutely thrilled I'm doing a fundraiser and Seth was both excited and a bit worried as he has so little confidence in himself he can't believe that anyone would want to donate.

He said: "What if no one gives me any money? I'd be really embarrassed and feel a complete failure".

It broke my heart. No child should feel like this.

So let's all prove him wrong!

Let’s all boost his morale and show him we care and raise as much money as we possibly can to help him expand on this talent and follow his dreams and become the someone he so wants to be in life.

It would be such a huge confidence boost to his self-esteem and self-belief that he’d be over the moon!. It would change his life!

Donations:

Whatever you are able to give, no matter how small, I promise you that every single penny raised will go towards the cost of Seth’s new PC and all the things listed on the budget. (See below)

Can you imagine what we could do if everyone donated even £1, £5, or £10!

Seth so needs a positive success story in his life and if you can find it in your heart to help him please do.

I know he will make each and every one of you proud.

I will stay in touch with you on this page and keep you updated every step of the way.

And if you can't donate money, please consider sharing Seth’s story with your friends and family whether on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram or word of mouth.

Thank you all for your love and support

With every good wish

Bunny

What will the money be spent on?

Seth’s Go Fund Me Budget:

In order to find out exactly what was needed, I got advice from an expert computer programmer and graphic designer as to the best-recommended PC and discussed Seth’s assistive technology needs with a specialist dyslexia teacher.

I also realised he only has a small wooden table and a static chair for his laptop at home and needs a proper full-sized desk for a PC and monitor and an ergonomic adjustable chair he can grow into, as this whole PC and setup will last him at least 5 years until he's 17 or so.

Here’s the list of things we all agreed were the most important:

Equipment:
A new personal home PC with extra memory and a good graphics card:
CYBERPOWER ULTRA R35 GAMING PC £1,281.60 inc VAT £1,281.60

C-Pen Reader | Portable Text-To-speech Scanner £240.00
Scan. Listen. Understand.
A ‘C pen scanning pen,’
These are especially helpful for those with dyslexia
as they can be run across any text from books, documents,
and labels, etc. It will read it out loud to him. He can then listen
again to unfamiliar words on training books, schoolwork, homework
sheets, exam papers and displays etc and repeat them again
as many times as he needs to try and get familiar with words.

Dragon Dictate by Nuance
The world’s leading speech recognition solution
For PC’s £179.99 Incl. VAT £179.99
This will allow Seth to use his voice to navigate and search
the Web, interact with computer programmes, dictate documents,
send emails, automatically transcribe your recordings,
listen back to the dictated text and much more.

A computer desk for teenagers: £79.99
Aosom GB £79.99 (Was £129.99)
Computer Desk Writing Table W/Cup Holder Headphone holder

Ergonomic chair for teenagers. £69.99
L Comfurni Desk Chair with Footrest
(Seth will need to ensure the chair suits his specific
needs so we may need to change the style and size etc).
To prevent RSI and back pain it’s important to have an
adjustable chair. When using Voice Activated commands
with headphones on you don’t need to be sitting upright with
your hand on the keyboard or mouse so you can lean back
and relax whilst dictating, hence the built-in footrest is important.
This chair will last Seth for many years.
