Tax deductible
Steampunk Farms Rescue Barn, a recognized 501(c)(3) Farmed-Animal Sanctuary, has evolved beyond traditional sanctuary, securing new pastures in animal welfare, community engagement, and ethical advocacy.

While we remain steadfast in our commitment to rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing sanctuary for abused, neglected, and abandoned animals, we now pioneer a unique model of participatory governance, inviting supporters to actively shape our mission through various Boards of Directors. Our approach intertwines compassionate animal care with innovative funding strategies, cruelty-controlled practices, and a dynamic educational platform.

We offer comprehensive advocacy training, hands-on animal care experiences, and community-driven workshops, all designed to deepen the understanding and practice of sustainable stewardship and cruelty-free living. Engaging diverse groups, from scouts and students to individuals with special needs, we are not just a sanctuary but a hub of learning and transformation, empowering individuals and communities to embrace sustainable life skills, advocate effectively for animal welfare, and become active environmental stewards in this increasingly interconnected world.

This is our most important Fundraiser every year; to fully fund keeping the Haystack high and the Grain Bins full.

Here's a rough breakdown of our fluid requirements:
(Food, Feed, and Hay are prioritized over all other needs)

- Pig grain from Star Milling costs between $4,600 and $5,000 monthly, delivered in 8-ton quantities once a month.
- Hay for our ruminants and equines ranges from $3,400 to $3,800 every other month.
- Feed for chickens, ducks, and turkeys is now $210 a month, a reduction from six months ago, thanks to our dedicated Cluck Crew that fully funds this requirement and allows for some enrichment toys and treats.
- Care for our previously euth-listed reactive shelter dogs and feral cats amounts to $500 a month.

Overall, our monthly feed expenses fluctuate between $6,800 and $7,400, influenced by seasonal tonnage prices, weight differences from delivery to delivery, and the cost of alfalfa at any given time.

To manage these costs through COVID-19 and amid rising inflation, we've been ordering feed in bulk, which has helped to not only stabilize our expenses, but given both significantly lower overall costs; eg, all things being equal, a bale of alfalfa that sells for $16 to $19 delivered, comes to about $13.50 per bale for us. That alone is a savings of around 22% every load.

Including our nominal lease and relatively low utilities—aside from electricity, which is notably high even in the backcountry mountains of Southern California—our basic operating cost for program and structural expenses reaches up to $8,000 a month on the high end.

Your continued support and donations play a vital role in helping us meet these costs and ensure the well-being of all the animals under our care. Thank you for being a part of our community and for your unwavering support.
