Happy Holidays, All! I would like to ask your support in fundraising for a local nonprofit. Recently, two endurance challenges lined up just before the holidays and I’ve combined these with a second personal goal: to fundraise for a local nonprofit during these challenging times.
Umbrella is a nonprofit organization in St. Johnsbury, Vermont that provides support for sexual and domestic violence survivors, consent and healthy relationship education in local schools, child-care assistance programs as well as vocational support for women. As a father, partner, educator, athlete and human, I am passionate about healthy masculinity, particularly in sport, and gender equity. Please consider supporting the cause if you can.
The two endurance challenges that gave me the idea for the event that I will undertake on December 19th are Athletic Brewing Company’s End-of-Year Challenge and Run Steep, Get High’s 25 days of “Vertmas”. These challenges encourage endurance athletes to run as much distance and gain as much vertical feet as possible as a way to end 2020 with positivity and growth. Athletic Brewing Company, a non-alcoholic brewery, kindly asked me to join their team as an ambassador this year. I am excited to combine their unique mission (non-alcoholic beer in sport!) with my personal aim to promote gender equity and healthy masculinity into this event.
On December 19th I will climb Mt Pisgah in Westmore, Vermont for 12 continuous hours. Each climb (north trailhead to south trailhead and back) is 3000 feet of elevation gain and 7 miles. A prize (to be decided) will be given to the person who most closely guesses my total vertical gain I achieve in feet over the 12 hour period.
As we all know, our world has changed in dramatic and scary ways this year; 2020 has certainly been a tough year. Without fundraising events, many nonprofits find themselves with fewer resources than in previous years. I recognize this ask comes at a difficult time for all of us and that we all have struggled in different ways through the pandemic. Please know donations in the form of positive energy and kind thoughts are always welcome!
Thank you for your consideration, support and positive energy.
Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.
Yours in community and endurance,
Jesse
