Hi, I’m Elvis Lazerbeam, a Dad, former Educator, Musician, Writer and Streamer.
There's a Loudon Wainwright song I like where the narrator talks about walking down the street without getting shot or blown up. This absence is treated with a sense of confusion, as if the narrator now comes to expect harm as a default when they step out their door, and they now perhaps feel uncomfortable in their newfound safety. Loudon wrote that song in relation to the war in Vietnam, but I believe the sentiment is still woefully relevant.
My children will most likely never know war. But that is not true for all. Regardless of political affiliation or ideology you may hold, that statement should bother you. I truly believe the humanist in all of us cannot abide this. Generational trauma sets us all back as a species.
On the 29th of March, I'll be turning 37. It's an age where I find myself reflecting on my place in the world, and what I can do to make the future better for those to come. So join me live from 9am to 9pm NZDT at https://twitch.tv/elvislazerbeam and let's together give as much as we can for children around the world. I'll be matching donations (up to $200). If you would like to help, but cannot afford to give money, please don't worry, I've been there. You can still help by getting the word out there or sharing this link: https://gofund.me/8b33da46a
And remember, a society grows great when people plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
Thank you for your time.
