Help Support Rev. Dojin Brent Haas on His Path of Practice & Service

Dear friends and supporters,

This autumn brings a deeply meaningful and rare opportunity- the invitation to serve as Shuso (head monk) for the Autumn Ango at Tassajara Zen Mountain Monastery.

This season marks 22 years since I first walked into Beginner’s Mind Temple at the San Francisco Zen Center, beginning a journey of practice that has shaped my life in profound ways. Being Shuso is a once-in-a-lifetime role—an honor, a responsibility, and an essential step in training to serve others as a Zen teacher and chaplain.

What makes this moment even more special is the leadership of this Ango: Abbot Dōshin Mako Voelkel, together with my ordination teachers, Rev. Kiku Christina Lehnherr and Rev. Shosan Victoria Austin. To be guided by this entirely female leadership group and teachers who mean so much to me, is extraordinary.

As I step into this next phase of training, like many monks before me, holding out the bowl—humbly asking for support. Like monks before me, I rely on the generosity of the community to continue this path of service and hold out my bowl in a humble request for your support. It is through generosity that i may continue my studies and training, in residency and in service.

Your contributions will help cover:
Health care, Priest and training supplies,
Basic living expenses during residency at Tassajara and beyond.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps sustain this journey of practice, so I may continue cultivating compassion, wisdom, and service to all beings—including those on the streets and among the underserved, where I also carry my practice as a counselor and chaplain.

If you feel moved, please consider donating and sharing this campaign with others. Your generosity makes this path possible.

With deep gratitude and bows,
Rev. Dojin Brent Haas
