Hi, my name is LeeAnne Stevens, founder of the 10th Annual Wendaajiwondehnong Bimoseyan Mother Water Walk. Every year, I walk in ceremony along our sacred island mountain carrying water for healing, protection and future generations. This journey is rooted in responsibility to the water, the land, our ancestors and our children.
This year’s walk begins May 17 and continues for 35 days across the Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail region. The walk is entirely community-supported and organized through grassroots effort. I do this work without a salary while also caring for my family and sacred sled dogs.
I am fundraising to help cover urgent transportation repairs, fuel, food, camping supplies, ceremonial needs, dog food, safety supplies, outreach materials and daily logistics required to keep the walk moving forward. Right now, my Jeep urgently needs two new tires and even the spare tire is no longer usable. Reliable transportation is essential to coordinate supplies, water drops, campsites, and support walkers throughout the journey.
This annual walk is more than a physical journey. It is a commitment to protecting the waters, preserving Anishinaabe teachings, strengthening community connections and creating opportunities for youth and future generations to learn directly from the land.
Any support, whether through donations, sharing this fundraiser, supplies or prayers, is deeply appreciated. Miigwetch for helping us continue this sacred work and ensuring the water continues to be carried with love, strength and dignity for the next seven generations.
