On Sunday 19th July, members of our touch rugby club are taking on a 10‑mile hike to raise money to support the running and future of the club.
We are a volunteer‑run, LGBT+ inclusive touch rugby club, and we work hard to create a space where people feel welcome, supported, and able to be themselves. Running a club like ours comes with unavoidable costs, and this fundraiser helps us keep the club sustainable while staying accessible to our members.
Why our club matters
For many of us, our relationship with sport didn’t start positively.
A lot of our members grew up feeling excluded, unwelcome, or unsafe in sports environments — particularly at school. Whether it was because of homophobia, gender expectations, body image pressures, or simply not fitting the traditional idea of what a “sporty” person should be, sport was often a source of anxiety rather than enjoyment.
Our club exists to change that narrative.
We aim to provide:
- A non‑judgemental, supportive sporting environment
- The chance to rediscover physical activity on your own terms
- A place where ability levels, identities, and experiences are respected
For many members, this is the first time sport has felt genuinely inclusive and affirming.
Building LGBT+ connection beyond bars and apps
For LGBT+ people, opportunities to meet and connect with others are still often centred around bars, nightlife, or dating apps. While those spaces can be valuable, they don’t work for everyone — and they don’t always lead to lasting friendships or meaningful support networks.
Our club offers something different:
- Regular opportunities to connect in spaces that aren’t limited to bars or nightlife
- A mix of social and sporting activities that bring people together through teamwork and shared experience
- A supportive community that extends beyond training and matches
By supporting this fundraiser, you’re helping us continue to offer a space where LGBT+ people can form real connections — without pressure, expectation, or the need to perform.
What we’re raising money for
All funds raised will go directly back into the club and be used for:
Mandatory fees and competitions
Some costs are essential for us to operate:
- £200 per year for England Touch affiliation (mandatory for insurance and participation)
- £350 per year to take part in the IGR league, allowing us to attend LGBT+ inclusive tournaments across the UK
Equipment and year‑round training
- Replacing and maintaining shared training equipment
- Building a fund for winter 3G pitch bookings, so we can continue training consistently when weather makes grass pitches unplayable
Community, connection, and wellbeing
Strong communities are built beyond training sessions:
- Creating a social fund to help subsidise off‑pitch activities such as bowling, cinema trips, ice skating, and other group socials
- Supporting small but meaningful touches like medals for tournament finishes and birthday cards for members
Why your support helps
Every donation helps us:
- Keep membership costs lower and more accessible
- Reduce barriers for people (re)entering sport later in life
- Provide stability and continuity for the club
- Continue building an inclusive, people‑first LGBT+ community
Whether you donate, share the page, or cheer us on during the hike, thank you for supporting our club and the space we’re proud to create.
❤️ Every step we take — and every pound donated — helps keep this community moving forward.
