10k run for Grad and Cancer research UK
Hi everyone, my name is Jack and these are my 3 closest friends: Henry, Charlie and Cameron. We have been friends since year 7 and are currently 16 and 17 in our first year at college. We all became best friends through our one common love. Football. All 4 of us joined the same team and have been playing together ever since making memories and having a laugh with eachother. One man who was crucial to us doing this was my grandad (aka Grad). Grad became the league secretary and does fixtures, long zoom calls and organising the leagues so that children had a safe, fun, reliable and fair league to compete in. Through me, Charlie, Henry and Cameron’s friendship we have been and done everything together, leading to all 3 of them becoming extremely close with Grad, occasionally coming out with us and inviting us round to play darts or watch the football. Me and Grad have always been extremely extremely close doing everything together, and slowly all 5 of us became like this. Unfortunately last year, Grad was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. Due to him being diagnosed with this, he could no longer do his fixtures and zoom calls and also no longer able to attend our games on Saturday mornings. For us, it always felt empty and people asking how he was and where he is could sometimes be hard. Luckily the doctors and nurses took great care of him and he is currently on chemotherapy, meaning he has recently been able to attend our games again and that “emptiness” felt no more. Cancer effects millions of people across the world and is a silent killer to many. Therefore to support cancer research and the terrific work they do. Me, Henry, Charlie and Cameron will be doing a 10k run of Heaton Park in Manchester in Grads name and all profits will go to Cancer research UK. Through friendship and togetherness, we have all been able to talk about our feelings and understand eachother. This is really good to have as sometimes banter and having a joke can get in the way of meaningful conversation. Thank you for taking the time to read this and always speak to someone if you have any problems or are suffering. Never suffer in silence and there are always people to talk to. You are not alone.
Thank you.
