10K for Yianni

My partner Yianni had a life-changing mountain bike accident in January, sustaining in a spinal cord injury, resulting in paralysis of his body from his chest down, his hands and some of his arm muscles.

Paralysis is really only one aspect of spinal cord injury, it’s totally life-changing but it’s the secondary conditions that come with it that are probably the most challenging day to day. Some days are easier than others and it’s a massive adjustment. But we keep positive, keep pushing and try to focus on what he can do rather than what he can’t.

Life has been really hard and as we are learning, adaptations and disability equipment is expensive. Yianni’s home in Brighton isn’t accessible so we’re currently looking for somewhere wheelchair accessible.

I’m not a runner but Yianni has talked me into running 10K. I’ll be joining his sister Maria, my brothers & some friends to raise some funds for his rehabilitation, equipment & home adaptations.
