I'm walking 100km in October!

2020 has been, and continues to be, an extremely challenging and tough time for us all. I had planned on completing some organised charity walks this year in an effort to up my fitness level and do some good in the world, but lockdown and gathering restrictions put a stop to those.

Walking has been amazing therapy for my own mental health issues and whilst struggling lately I thought,  actually, there is no reason I can't complete the walks on my own and still raise that cash!  So, I have set myself a challenge of walking 100km (shorter than 100 miles!!) in October , and I hope you will support me on my way.

I am using gofundme rather than a charity link because it isn't possible to split donations between two charities on the usual sites like justgiving etc. And I wanted to contribute to two causes that are linked and that I care passionately about.

Mental health issues are present in everyone's lives to some degree, but this year has seen a dramatic increase in people struggling and not being able to access support. The inability to access support can often have tragic, disastrous consequences that could have been avoided, so one of the charities I am fundraising for is Mental Health Foundation.

The second charity I am supporting is Quinn's Retreat. Quinn's Retreat was founded by someone I know personally who, unimaginably, lost both of her children to suicide. Quinn's Retreat offers a safe haven to those bereaved by suicide, free of charge, and needs your very much needed support to be able to continue to be there for those families that have been devastated by this terrible tragedy. You can read more about the retreat here:

I have my walking gear ready, my routemapper logging every step, and fitbit charged ready to start from 1st October 2020.

I'll be sharing photo's of my travels and distances logged as I go along and I hope you will all join me in supporting these two incredibly important causes.
