On Saturday, October 4th, Hallidays Point resident Tom Mwanza, a passionate musician and endurance runner, will run 100 kilometres from Hallidays Point to Port Macquarie. But this isn’t just a physical challenge—it’s a mission of hope.
Tom is aiming to raise $100,000 to build a home for five orphaned children in Kalulushi, Zambia.
These children, aged 2 to 14, tragically lost both parents within a six-month period and are now in the care of Tom's mother in a small, overcrowded home. Tom, who was born and raised in Zambia, knows firsthand the challenges of growing up in a developing country. And these children are third cousins of Tom's so it certainly makes the cause very real for him. Now living in Australia, he's using his
platform and endurance to create real change for these kids.
“Running 100km in one day is tough,” Tom says, “but not as tough as losing your parents and being left with nothing. I want to show them and the world that they matter, that there is hope.”
Funds raised will go toward building a secure home and supporting the children’s basic needs and schooling.
The run will be taking place on Saturday 4th October, 2025.
All funds donated go into a seperate trust account we have set up for these children that we draw upon as needed - for food, clothing, and medical expenses as the top priorities but with our longer term goal to purchase land to build or buy a home.
